MAPLEWOOD, NJ — Acting Essex County Prosecutor Robert D. Laurino and Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose announced Aug. 17 that the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force, which includes detectives from the Newark Police Department, is seeking assistance from the public in identifying two persons of interest in connection with the murder of Deborah Burton, 62, of Maplewood.
Burton was fatally shot in the city of Newark on March 13 on 3rd Street at approximately 1:45 p.m. after a dropping a family member off at work. The car driven by Burton, a 2002 four-door gray Chevy Cruz, was recovered at 65-67 North 7th Street the next day.
Two different females were captured on video surveillance and are believed to be carrying the victim’s Coach pocketbook. Detectives in the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office are seeking help from the public in identifying the women featured in these photos or any information regarding the homicide.
All information will be kept confidential. The Essex County Sheriff’s Crime Stoppers Program is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and/or conviction.
