SOUTH ORANGE — The South Orange Board of Trustees voted unanimously at its Aug. 11 meeting to provide slight pay raises to its non-union and supervisory personnel for 2014.
Resolution No. 2014-237, which was passed as part of the consent agenda, raised nearly all non-union and supervisory personnel salaries by 1.9 or 2 percent, a fairly average increase. These percentages were arrived at after calculating the percent increase — or decrease, as the case was in a couple of instances — between the 2014 salaries presented in the resolution and the 2013 salaries presented in Resolution No. 2013-199, which was passed unanimously Aug. 12, 2013.
While most positions received 1.9- or 2-percent salary increases, some received much larger increases, while some received decreases.
The largest increase, based on the two village documents, went to the position of village prosecutor, which saw an increase of 13.6 percent. Similarly large increases went to the deputy municipal clerk, with a 9.25-percent increase, and the municipal clerk with an 8.1-percent increase.
The smallest increase went to the position of office manager with only a 0.49-percent increase.
Conversely, both the fire chief and magistrate saw reductions in their salaries. The fire chief will receive 0.86 percent less, and the magistrate will receive a whopping 16-percent reduction.
Non-union and supervisory employees receiving increases of 1.9 or 2 percent, according to village documents, are: administrative clerk, administrative secretary, assistant director of recreation and cultural affairs, assistant supervisor of public works, chief financial officer, deputy engineer, deputy village administrator, director of code enforcement, director of public works, director of recreation and cultural affairs, engineer, health officer, IT manager, library assistant, library director, magistrate chief, police captain, police chief, principal librarian, purchasing agent, senior librarian, senior library assistant, supervisor of public works, tax assessor, tax collector, village administrator, village public defender and zoning officer.
