Seton Hall honors alumni who continue the university’s mission of bettering the world

SOUTH ORANGE, NJ — New Jersey native Artūras Karnišovas, assistant general manager and vice president of the NBA’s Denver Nuggets, was among the Seton Hall University alumni honored at the 2016 “Many Are One” Alumni Awards Gala on Friday, June 10. Karnišovas was presented with the Most Distinguished Alumnus Award, the most prestigious alumni award given by the university to an individual who has been recognized as an outstanding leader in his or her professional field. The black-tie event was emceed by 1010 WINS news reporter and anchor Glenn Schuck, who began his WSOU Hall of Fame radio career as a student at Seton Hall in 1981.

The Many Are One alumni awards gala celebrates the ways in which the university’s alumni have positively influenced the world. Proceeds raised from the gala support four-year scholarships for children, grandchildren and siblings of alumni who attend Seton Hall; each selected student receives $36,000 in scholarship funds.

Alvaro Llanos and Shawn Simons received the Humanitarian of the Year Award for their passionate dedication and commitment to helping fire victims through their program “After the Fire,” which the two freshman-year roommates developed together after they were victims themselves of the Seton Hall Boland Hall fire in 2000. Llanos and Simons joined together to become fire safety educators, going from survivors on the road to recovery to passionate advocates.

The Alumni Impact Award was presented to Mildred Menos, director of strategic alliances at the Life Raft Group, and Roger Clark, senior director of program management at UnitedHealthcare. This award is presented to an alumnus or alumna whose extraordinary contributions of time, talent or treasure have greatly advanced the mission of the university.

In addition, Service Awards were presented to the following distinguished Seton Hall alumni: John Auriemma, Cesar Martin Estela, Maria Mazziotti Gillan, Carrie A. Kahana, Christopher Edward Kisco, Gerald S. Levey, Elaine Rocha, Mary Ellen Urbanowicz and Paul M. Ward.
