MAPLEWOOD, NJ — Students who attend Columbia High School, South Orange Middle School and Maplewood Middle School are invited to a screening of “13th” on Monday, Nov. 7, from 6 to 9 p.m., with doors opening at 5:30 p.m., in the CHS Auditorium, 17 Parker Ave. in Maplewood. A student “open mic” will follow the film.
“13th” is a groundbreaking documentary from Ava DuVernay, director of “Selma,” about the creation of the 13th Amendment and its impact on mass incarceration, specifically its devastating consequences on the black community.
Educators and members of law enforcement are encouraged to attend the event, but only in a viewing and listening capacity.
Adults who wish to attend, must RSVP to Twhitake@somsd.k12.nj.us.com.
